On December 24, 2018 the traditional Christmas transmission took place with the old Alexanderson alternator SAQ at World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station on 17,2 kHz. For this broadcast, that happens in the morse code, I used a Beverage antenna of 385 meters long in the direction of 42 °! I made a YouTube movie in the shack a minute before the official broadcast: https://www.youtube.com/SAQ 17.2 kHz. A very nice special Chrismas QSL card was sent for those broadcasts!
On 3 January 2019 was the very last broadcast of ‘Groot Nieuws Radio’ from the Netherlands on the medium wave 1008 kHz. The station can now be received digitally. The broadcast ended at 21.00 UTC with the song “Word of God speak” from MercyMe’s. With this song they once started on the medium wave! A recording of the very last minutes is here: Groot Nieuws Radio 1008 kHz.mp3.
The US shortwave station WINB performed a long series of test transmissions in September 2018 in the digital DRM mode with the new transmitter in Red Lion in Pennsylvania. These test transmissions were forwarded to Europe and North Africa on 15670 kHz. I sent a few reception reports to WINB40th@yahoo.com and received these QSL cards.
Many days I tried unsuccessfully with the help of my 48 m-band dipole antenna to receive Radio 4KZ on the 5055 kHz. After setting up and using the Beverage antenna towards Australia, the reception was clearly better. Finally, on 10 December, I was able to draw up and send a detailed report. On the 13th of December I could also record a clear identification on a mp3 audio file: Radio 4KZ, AUS 5055.mp3! Many thanks to General Manager Al Kirton for the stickers, the personal letter and of course, to confirm my catch with this beautiful QSL card. I’m very happy with it! I heard Radio Asfalttelegrafen for the first time on November 16, 2018. It is a legal hobby station that broadcasts with 300 watts on 1476 kHz from the city of Borås at 60 km east of Gothenburg in Sweden. With the end of the year the station is regularly in the air. On December 29, 2018 I could hear him very well with the Beverage antenna: Radio Asfalttelegrafen 1476 kHz.mp3. The QSL address is email@example.com.
During good conditions on the medium wave I could receive the Taiwan Coast Station ‘Keelung Radio-XSX’ with a NAVTEX message on 518 kHz. Within two days my report was confirmed with a beautiful E-QSL.
